Return to the Road of Slaughter

I've been back to the road where thousands of Latvian soldiers died in a Soviet encirclement in early February 1945. Read my piece about the visit here.

To the lower left of the vent hole in this helmet is an entry hole made by a bullet. It's a sobering reminder of the fate of many thousands of men on the Eastern Front.
